While rest is important during acute back injury, prolonged inactivity can worsen pain and stiffness. Sitting or lying down for too long weakens muscles, decreases flexibility, and reduces circulation, making recovery slower.

Physiotherapy Tip:
Aim for regular, low-impact physical activity throughout the day. Walking, swimming, or gentle yoga are excellent options that promote movement without excessive strain. Avoid staying in one position for longer than 30-60 minutes. Set a timer to remind yourself to stand up, stretch, or walk briefly.

Movement suggestions:

  • Take short walks every hour if you work at a desk.

  • Use a standing desk or adjustable workstation if possible.

  • Incorporate brief stretching breaks during sedentary activities.

Being active keeps your spine healthy and reduces the risk of chronic back issues.
